Good Governance – Myth Or reality ( English ) : Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe
Prabodhan Manch Parle
Prabodhan Manch - an Association of Persons with its primary activity centred around providing a platform for dissemination of views from authentic knowledgeable With the help of posters, emails, SMS, WhatsApp and Twitter – we are hopeful of reaching out not just the audience but others who couldn’t attend the program as well.
Today’s lecture, taking place after a much longer break than we would like, is the fourth in our series and we continue to be overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response that we receive from our audience. So maybe we don’t need much of an introduction. But to our committed audience - we do owe an explanation for this long break. A combination of many things - Professional preoccupation, inability to spot the right subject or find the most suited speaker being the primary ones – has led to this.
Meanwhile, we have formed an association of persons (AoP), which makes us a formal body and enables us to receive financial contributions. So all who want to help us – keep growing the list of our committed audience and, if possible, help us get some contributions.
Speaker's Introduction
Vinay Prabhakar Sahasrabuddhe: a nationalist at heart, a political scholar by profession, and a politician by elevation, Vinayji dons many hats at the same time. Born on November 10, 1957 in Nashik, his early schooling was in Dhule. Thereafter he studied in Nashik, at Garware College, Pune, and then at Ruia College in Mumbai. His association with ABVP started in 1974 and he has since been an office bearer in many RSS inspired organizations such as ABVP and SEIL at the state and national level. He has had stints in journalism as a regular columnist in many newspapers, journals and magazines.
For the last 28 years, Vinayji has been best known for his work with the रामभाऊ म्हाळगी प्रबोधिनी - in many ways this institution is the creation of his efforts. In 1988, Vinayji joined the प्रबोधिनी as Chief Programme Co-Ordinator. In 1990, he became its Executive Director and later in 2000, the Director General. Currently he is Vice President at प्रबोधिनी, a post that he has held since June 2016. It will be interesting to hear from him on how he managed to get the most ‘unruly’ set of students, if I may say, to attend lectures so late in life. Probably wanting to replicate this success in Delhi – he joined the Public Policy Research Centre, as an Honorary Director. A Vice President in the BJP since 2014, he is in charge of Good Governance & Policy Research – making him an ideal choice for today’s topic.
Vinayji’s better half, Nayanaji – also an ABVP activist & currently heading Bharatiya Stree Shakti cell – is a banker by profession and his son Akshay is an MA in electronic media, pursuing doctoral studies, while running a start up in film-making. Thanks to my own connection to Dhule, I’ve had the privilege of not only listening to his lectures but also been able to accompany him on a road journey as well.
The Topic – “Good Governance – Myth Or reality”
It has been three years into its term, and there has been a lot said or unsaid about the Modi government – and more importantly its governance. Is their governance really innovative? What is really ‘good’ about the governance of this Sarkar? And – most importantly – what’s really different this time around.
Our Appeal
Subsequent to the formation of Prabodhan Manch as an AOP and the opening of our bank account – we are now open to receiving contributions from our audience and we look forward to receiving the same.
