COVID-19 has undoubtedly been the Black Swan event of the last 100+ years and it has brought forth many challenges to the fore - that were hitherto unprecedented. One of the biggest ones is the concept of globalization. As each nation tries to redefine how they will look at global relationships – the real elephant in the room is understanding and managing the relationship with China. On one hand, COVID offered a great opportunity to many countries – India included – to replace China in the many sectors. On the other – it also reiterated China’s dominance such that it had become monopolistic and even irreplaceable. In the midst of all this – the change of guard in the US – has obviously altered the equations considerably. To talk to us about all this and much more, we have with us a speaker – who Prabodhan Manch audience knows well and is definitely the most suited to speak about it.

 

Speaker's Introduction

Our speaker for the day, Shri Vijay Gokhale is a career diplomat and an Indian Foreign Service officer of the 1981 batch – he retired as the Foreign Secretary of India. And he has many an accomplishment in the Greater China region to his credit. A proficient linguist with fluency in English, Hindi, Marathi but more notably in Sanskrit & Mandarin, he has – as he mentioned to us last time – written a book recently too.
