Remembering Lokmanya – Trailblazing Legacy – Part 2 – Karma Yogi
Prabodhan Manch Parle
An AoP established 4 years back, with a YouTube subscriber base of 7500 and in-person registered database of 2500+, we now have 1750+ donors of whom about a quarter have made repeat donations. We can be reached through our website, our WhatsApp (text only), our email and our Twitter handle @ManchParle.
As we entered the second month of lockdown X.0, we realised that the new normal was to have an e-gathering over a Webinar. Our team put together the entire infrastructure and we were able to host our first Webinar .. with more than 1050 registrations and many more viewers. Going further down using technology,in this fifth month of partial lockdown, we decided to stream both sessions (Part 1 and Part 2) simultaneously on Youtube and Facebook, getting an overwhelming response.
Speaker's Introduction
Shri Avinash Dharmadhikari was born in Kolhapur and educated in Pune at the Jnana Prabodhini School. He joined the prestigious Indian Administrative Services. After serving on various posts during his administrative career of ten years, he resigned from the IAS in 1996 for the reason that is best described in Arun Shourie’s words "to be able to serve Indian society better". He was Deputy Secretary to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra at the time of his resignation. He is the founder and director of Chanakya Mandal Pariwar, working in the field of Career Guidance and Personality Development and has probably given more candidates to the IAS than the number that he served with. Apart from being an educationist, activist, journalist and a writer, Avinashji is even better known as a prolific orator.
The Topic – “Remembering Lokmanya – Trailblazing Legacy – Part 2 – Karma Yogi
This year – somehow – seems to be one of remembrances associated with the Fountainheads of inspiration for Prabodhan Manch. Earlier, we had the first death anniversary of our beloved late Hon’ble Defence Minister Parrikarji … who’s memory was rekindled when 5 fling birds landed last week at Ambala. This time, 1st August was another landmark remembrance day. This day – exactly a century ago – the first true mass leader of India – one who’s portrait always adorns the stage of Prabodhan Manch Parle – who was lovingly called “Lokmanya” …. Bal Gangadhar Tilak passed away. For us at Prabodhan Manch Parle – this was another one of those events that needed some special treatment. So – given the vast expanse of the work and contribution of Lokmanya, we decided to break from our usual tradition and made this a 2 part series. Every child who’s grown up in Maharashtra has probably read the story of the “शेंगांची टरफलं” – the groundnut shells – but we also felt that his work has remained in a shell as far as the wider populace of India is concerned. So we decided to have this talk in English – to reach a wider and younger audience. Of course, this meant that we had to search for someone who could do adequate justice to this dual task at hand.
These are difficult topics on which we have asked our speaker to throw light on in a very short time.
