Prabodhan Manch Parle
Prabodhan Manch Parle is a newly formed group of12 professionals who want to do something outside of their regular day to day activities. In this era of information overload it is extremely difficult to get unbiased views on any topic of importance or interest. Often – just the prejudices and preconceived biases of speakers – is a give away as to what their expert opinion might be. Media – in all forms whether mainstream or social – is driven entirely by their commercial goals – and hence almost never impartial. In such a milieu it is extremely important to create an impartial platform for dissemination of views by speakers of eminence. Prabodhan Manch Parle seeks to do that as it embarks on its journey.
Speaker's Introduction
Hon’ble Defence Minister of India, Manohar Parrikar was born and brought up in Mhapsa, Goa and did his schooling there as well. After completing his Bachelor of Technology in Metallurgical Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology at Powai he went back to Goa to start his own business.
A core Swayamsevak from his childhood, he was active during the emergency as well as in the elections of 1977 that followed soon after. Having shouldered many responsibilities within the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) he was then entrusted with the task of building the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Goa. Elected an MLA in 1994, he became the Chief Minister of Goa in 2000, 2002 and then later in 2012. In November 2014, he was called by the hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to join the Union Government as the Defence Minister.
Tales of the simplicity, honesty and sincerity of Hon’ble Parrikarji are well known and his background is otherwise well published through many media. An incident that his college mates recall reflects these qualities in plenty. One day late night everyone decided to watch a movie and walked to Kanjur Marg station. Since the local was at the station – everyone quickly jumped in. Post the movie – as they were returning – Manoharji insisted on buying the tickets and everyone was surprised to see return tickets. When asked he simply replied that since we travelled two way and didn’t have time to buy the ticket while coming doesn’t mean we travelled one way and hence we owe this to the Railways.
